“The origins of the Homer Laughlin China Company can be traced to 1871, when East Liverpool natives Homer and Shakespeare Laughlin partnered to sell pottery.
The Laughlins' White Granite Ware won accolades at the Centennial International Exhibition held in 1876 in Philadelphia, Pa., which today is considered to have been the first official World's Fair in the United States. Shakespeare departed the company the following year and Homer became the sole owner, a title he retained until his retirement in 1897.”
