Prince Friedrich William on Horseback, Staffordshire Mantle Statuette, King of Prussia, Relation of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert

Antique Statuette of Prince Friedrich William, later Emporer Friedrich III, Emporer of Germany, King of Prussia (1831-1888) on Horseback. 

Friedrich III was a German Emporer and King of Prussia for 99 days before his death. Known as Fritz, he was the only son of Emporer Wilhelm I and his wife, Princess Augusta of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach.

Married to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's eldest daughter, Victoria (known as Vicky and said to have been Prince Albert's favorite child), the Princess Royal, until his death in 1888.  They were known to have had a happy marriage that produced 8 children giving Queen Victoria and Prince Albert their first grandchild, Wilhelm.

Made in Staffordshire, England, circa 1857, it was most probably made to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of the Princess Royal and Prince Frederick in 1858. Figures such as this were made for aristocrats to display in their homes.  This piece beautifully depicts the grandeur of this royal nobleman and would have been displayed in a place of pride.  

I acquired it from an unbelievably posh estate where the lady of the house surrounded herself with Chinese porcelain, French antiques and Staffordshire pieces. She was known in the elite circles of Austin for her well curated home and one-of-kind pieces collected throughout the years, many from the Antique Swan. She loved to entertain and her charity work with the Austin Junior League. It’s said that invitations to her soirées were coveted to see the decor.

This piece is substantial, measuring 14” tall x 9" wide x 3" deep, and is in lovely estate condition. As with any true antique, there are signs of age, including light crazing and wear to the original finish. Please see all the pictures, as they are meant as part of the description.
