Rose Medallion Tea Pot, Hand Painted, Early 20th Century Famille Rose

This early 20th century Rose Medallion Tea Pot is such a charming chinoiserie piece. The handle is reminiscent of bamboo with gilt accents on it as well as the spout and lid. It’s such a lovely piece perfect to add to or start a collection. 

This highly collected pattern was created for export by the Chinese in the early to mid 1800s as part of the collection that became known as Famille Rose - the French term for the Rose Family as the rosey pinks were new to this enameled porcelain. 

It’s hand painted in alternating panels of Royal figures in palace scenes and garden flowers with fanciful birds. All are framed by borders of botanicals, foliage and butterflies in vibrant pinks, greens, blues, oranges, and yellows on white enameled porcelain. 

The artistry on this piece is superb. This is one of the ways you can tell the age and quality of Chinese porcelain. As their popularity of these pieces grew, as with most things, the rush to produce more of them faster led to diminishing craftsmanship. This piece has impeccable detail. You can also feel the quality of the porcelain… this is just one of those pieces where the history is evident. 

I acquired it at a posh Texas estate full of antiques, original art, and some of the most beautiful furniture I have ever seen.

It measures 7.25” tall x 7.5” wide at the handle and is in lovely estate condition. *There is a dimple in the spout that is part of the original finish.
