Vintage Thousand Butterfly Plate
Vintage Thousand Butterfly Plate
I love the Thousand Butterfly pattern with it’s hand painted chinoiserie Chinoiserie paneled design of butterflies and vibrant florals. This vintage Rose Canton pattern displays beautifully with other patterns in the Famille Rose family.I believe it to be early to mid 20th century.
This highly collected pattern was created for export by the Chinese in the early to mid 1800s as part of the collection that became known as Famille Rose - the French term for the Rose Family as the rosey pinks were new to this enameled porcelain.
This piece was displayed as part of a collection with the Rose Medallion oval platter, the two 6” saucers, and the scalloped edged plate. I believe it to be circa early 20th century.
The artistry on this piece is superb. This is one of the ways you can tell the age and quality of Chinese porcelain. As their popularity of these pieces grew, as with most things, the rush to produce more of them faster led to diminishing craftsmanship. This piece has impeccable detail. You can also feel the quality of the porcelain… this is just one of those pieces where the history is evident.
I acquired it at a posh Texas estate full of antiques, original art, and some of the most beautiful furniture I have ever seen.
Pieces like this are why I love sourcing the South and the great state of Texas for vintage and antique estate decor is my favorite thing to do...shopping estate sales, auctions, charity thrift stores, and antique malls to carefully curate a collection of fantastic finds that have and will stand the test of time.
It measures 8.5” in diameter and is in lovely estate condition.
