19th Century French Napoleon III Style Ebonized Gilt Bronze Empire Jardiniere Planter Table Planter 

I'm so thrilled to be offering another of these Jardiniere tables. This fantastic piece is made of ebonized wood with intricate inlay work, hand-painted porcelain pieces, gilt bronze fixtures, and fittings, including empire-style paw feet and linked chain. Any words I think of seem terribly inadequate to describe this AMAZING piece. To say it’s stunning is an understatement. 

The removable top tray has a pair of egrets or cranes on porcelain, and the side scenes depict a cherub or putto and a lady dancing. Inside, there is a metal removable liner.

Ebonizing is a technique that uses black wood stain to imitate ebony. It originated in the 16th century but became popular in the 19th century when ebony was no longer plentiful enough to meet the demand for furniture. 

Jardiniere Planter tables were used in Victorian parlors to display flowers and plants and were often decorated with a floral motif. The top tray has a beautiful porcelain piece with a pair of egrets or cranes with ornate knobs as handles that lifts off to show the  removable metal liner. The side scenes depict a cherub or putto and a lady dancing. 

I acquired it at an amazing Texas estate auction.  

It measures 32” tall x 21.5” wide x  14” deep. It’s in really lovely condition but has wear consistent with its age.
