There is blue & white—and then there is 22 inches of antique English Blue Willow.

This spectacular 19th-century English Staffordshire transferware platter measures an impressive 22” long × 18” deep, giving one of the world’s most enduring blue-and-white patterns a truly statement-making presence.

Blue Willow grew out of England’s fascination with imported Chinese blue-and-white porcelain. By the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Staffordshire potteries were producing their own romantic chinoiserie landscapes in transferware, creating variations on the familiar scenes of pagodas, bridges, trees, water and birds that would become beloved in English and American homes for generations.

And more than a century later, there is still nothing quite like antique blue & white.

While originally made as a serving piece, a platter of this scale is fabulous displayed as wall art. Use it as the substantial anchor of a collected plate wall, surrounding it with smaller antique plates, bowls and transferware, or hang it entirely on its own where its incredible scale and intricate cobalt decoration can be appreciated.

It would be equally beautiful displayed on a large plate stand atop a sideboard, Welsh dresser, kitchen hutch or mantel.
