Talk about a WOW! This is a stunning example of French 19th-century craftsmanship, an exquisite trumeau mirror combining fine art and architectural elegance in one grand decorative statement. I love everything about it.
The upper register features an original oil-on-canvas painting in the Rococo revival manner, depicting an idyllic pastoral scene of elegantly dressed figures at leisure along a riverside—an homage to 18th-century fête galante traditions made famous by artists such as Boucher and Fragonard. The painting’s delicate color palette of sky blue, blush, and soft green contrasts beautifully with the gilt-accented frame and pale French blue-grey panels that surround it.
The lower panel holds the mirror glass, offering just the right amount of romantic age and silvering to lend authenticity and atmosphere. Flanking the frame are twin bronze candle sconces, adding both symmetry and practical charm—perfect for creating a soft, flickering glow in an entryway, dining room, or parlor.
