Large Antique Wedgwood Blue Willow Platter – 18.5”

English Transferware | Iconic Willow Pattern Statement Piece

This large Wedgwood Blue Willow platter is a true cornerstone piece for a collected, traditional home—generous in scale, rich in history, and instantly recognizable for its timeless English design.

Measuring an impressive 18.5 inches, this platter features the classic Willow pattern: pagodas, arched bridge, sweeping trees, birds in flight, and the storied chinoiserie landscape that has captivated collectors for over two centuries. The deep cobalt blue transfer stands beautifully against a creamy white ground, with crisp detail that speaks to Wedgwood’s enduring standards of quality.

Dating & Attribution

Based on the form, scale, and transfer quality, this platter is consistent with 19th-century Wedgwood production, when Willow pattern wares were produced in substantial serving sizes for formal English tables. Wedgwood introduced and refined the Willow pattern beginning in the late 18th century, with many large, finely executed platters dating to the mid–to–late 1800s.

As with many antique transferware pieces, precise dating can vary slightly by backstamp and production run; however, this example aligns strongly with 19th-century manufacture.

Condition

The platter shows age-appropriate wear consistent with antique use, adding to its authenticity and charm. No modern reproductions capture this scale or depth of character.

An heirloom-scale piece from one of England’s most storied ceramic houses—timeless, collectible, and endlessly usable.
