Antique French Bronze Figural Mantel Clock – “Imperial” Cherub Triumph, Late 19th Century
Y'all...this is one of those pieces you dream of finding! It’s a breathtaking pièce de résistance of the Belle Époque, a monumental French figural bronze clock signed Imperial is a symphony of artistry, opulence, and movement. Cast in glowing bronze with gilded accents, two jubilant putti or cherubs recline amidst classical garlands and laurel wreaths — one holding a crown of victory, the other nestled beside a cornucopia of plenty — all symbols of joy, love, and the golden spirit of France’s decorative age.
Beneath this sculptural tableau rests a porcelain enamel dial delicately inscribed Imperial, surrounded by a finely chased gilt bezel and set within an architectural bronze case. The detailing is exquisite: scrolling acanthus leaves, draped fabric, and fruiting vines rendered in high relief, all mounted on a stepped ebony base. Every inch reflects the lavish grandeur of Napoléon III and Louis XVI revival craftsmanship.
This clock is exceptionally heavy and substantial, a commanding focal point for a grand salon, library, or mantle — the kind of heirloom piece found in Parisian hôtels particuliers and the great homes of Europe.

✨ Why We Love It
It’s the embodiment of French decorative luxury — opulent yet timeless, romantic yet commanding. A true collector’s piece that brings the glow of the Gilded Age into your modern heirloom home.
It’s substantial in size and weight measuring 23.5” tall x 16” wide x 7.5” deep and is super HEAVY - probably 50lbs.
I acquired it from a massive estate in the Westlake area of Austin with the longest, steepest driveway. Because it’s super heavy and I'm completely obsessed with it, I paid someone to carry it to my car, lol.
Pieces like this are why I love Sourcing the South and the great state of Texas- especially Round Top- for heirloom estate decor…shopping estate sales, online auctions, charity thrift stores, and antique malls to carefully curate a collection of fantastic vintage and antique finds that have and will stand the test of time.
