Antique Oil Painting Reproduction of Italianate landscape with Jacob, Leah and Rachel, by Nicolaes Berchem

 I love religious art so when I saw this painting at the same amazing Alamo Heights estate as the 19th century Napoleon table (offered previously), I knew I was leaving with both pieces! I almost didn’t get this one because a fellow I see a lot in San Antonio was hot on it but I somehow got to it a second before he did. He kept asking me, are you getting it? I was like, Yes! hold on! I’m trying to get it down, He said, fine but if you change your mind, I want it to which I replied, like that’s gonna happen, lol.

This antique oil on board is a reproduction of the Nicolaes Berchem (1620-1683) painting "Jacob, Leah and Rachel".

It depicts a scene from the biblical story of Jacob with his wives, Leah and Rachel. It is considered a classic example of Dutch landscape art with biblical elements likely created during the mid-17th century, when Dutch Golden Age painting was at its peak.

Berchem was known for his mastery of landscape painting, capturing the rich details of the landscape with a focus on light and atmosphere; in this piece, the natural setting of the Middle East is depicted with a Dutch sensibility

It is beautifully done surrounded by velvet matting in a lovely ornate frame. It has craquelure consistent with age but nothing that detracts from its true gloriousness. 

This estate was FABULOUS! Every. Single. Piece. I also got the cast metal Lion door stop listed today. 

It’s substantial measuring 34” tall x 29.5” wide x 3” deep It’s in really lovely condition but has craquelure consistent with its age.
