Antique Staffordshire Bust of Shakespeare – “Shakespere” Spelling – 19th Century English Figurine

A poetic relic from the 19th century, this antique Staffordshire bust of Shakespeare (spelled “Shakespere” in true period style) brings a touch of literary grandeur to your home. Crafted in England, attributed to Leeds, with the signature charm of Staffordshire pottery, this dignified bust captures the Bard in all his glory—ruff collar, solemn gaze, and all.

This rare spelling variation, “Shakespere,” adds historical intrigue and is typical of Victorian interpretations of the playwright’s name. Whether you’re a collector of Staffordshire figures, a literature lover, or simply an admirer of timeless Victorian decor, this lovely piece makes a refined addition to any study, library, or mantel.

It was acquired from the estate of two highly regarded college professors who after retirement in the 1990s turned their love for collecting into a prosperous antique business selling in Round Top as well as across the South.  They were avid book collectors, orchid enthusiasts, and custom framers who expertly framed botanicals and birds from antique books and magazines.

It measures 8.5” tall x 5.75” wide x 3.25” deep with age consistent wear.
