Antique Louis Comfort Tiffany Favrile Bronze & Enamel Box with Glass Insets

Marked “L.C. Tiffany Furnaces Inc. Favrile 130” — a rare Gilded Age treasure of American design.

This exceptional Louis Comfort Tiffany bronze and enamel box is a shining example of Tiffany Furnaces’ artistry — where fine metalwork, iridescent glass, and painterly enamel merged into one exquisite whole.

Hand-cast in Favrile bronze, the box features a beautifully hammered surface framed with tiny glass insets, each surrounded by intricate enamel work in jewel-toned blues, corals, and golds — a hallmark of Tiffany’s unmatched craftsmanship. These delicate glass cabochons catch the light just as Tiffany intended, evoking the same magical glow as his famous stained glass lamps and windows.

Inside, it still retains its original fitted liner, a rare and desirable survival that adds to the piece’s authenticity and value. Designed as a dresser or desk box, it would have originally held jewelry, correspondence, or small keepsakes — a luxurious object meant to delight the eye as much as the hand.

The underside is clearly stamped:

“L.C. Tiffany Furnaces Inc. Favrile 130”, denoting production at the famed Tiffany Furnaces in Corona, New York, circa 1919–1928.

Each of these boxes was individually hand-finished, making no two exactly alike — true works of art from America’s golden era of design. Today, pieces of this caliber are highly prized by collectors of Tiffany Studios and American Art Nouveau, representing the height of early 20th-century luxury craftsmanship.

I acquired it from a posh Texas estate filled with French antiques, original art and Hermès scarves. It was a dream!

It measures 6.25” long x 3.75” deep x 2” tall  and is in lovely estate condition. I dare say, it may be the nicest one I’ve seen.
