19th century set of colored engravings published in the Dekorative Vorbilder in 1890 (the one on the far right was published in the first issue.) They are part of a series of plate engravings published as art.
The Dekorative Vorbilder was a decorative arts periodical published by Julius Hoffman in Stuttgart, Germany from 1890 until the late 1920s. The series featured work from a variety of artists, and it was described by the press as “a compilation of figurative representations, applied-art embellishments, plastic ornaments, decorative animal and plant studies, allegories, trophies, heraldic motifs, club insignias, coats of arms for guilds, festive ornaments, etc.
I acquired them from a posh San Antonio estate. They were collected overseas and framed upon return to the states.
Pieces like this are why sourcing the South and the great state of Texas for vintage and antique estate decor is my favorite thing to do...shopping estate sales, auctions, and charity thrift stores to carefully curate a collection of fantastic finds that have and will stand the test of time.
Each measures 14” tall x 10” wide and are framed behind glass.
$267 INCLUDES insured shipping in the continental US.
