Le Mieux 24K Gold Covered Porcelain Box
An exceptionally ornate vintage Le Mieux covered porcelain box, dating to approximately the 1930s and lavishly hand-decorated with 24-karat gold.
The architectural form features soft ivory and turquoise panels beneath intricate, gold-encrusted floral decoration. Romantic classical figural medallions surround the sloping lid, while a sculptural shell-shaped handle and four extraordinary pendant-style feet complete the design. Even the interior is embellished with delicate gold scrollwork and a central ornamental medallion.
Originally created as a covered sugar pot, this exquisite piece functions beautifully today as a decorative box for jewelry, keepsakes, or small treasures. It is equally fabulous displayed simply as an object of beauty on a dressing table, coffee table, bookshelf, or collected tabletop.
The shell-shaped handle shows gentle gold wear consistent with age and use. Rather than detracting from the piece, this honest wear tells us that the lid was lifted again and again—that this piece was used, enjoyed, and woven into someone’s everyday rituals.
