 A study in movement, ornament, and restraint—despite its exuberance.

 This monumental Rococo Revival figure presents a reclining putto draped across a deeply carved rocaille scroll, its form unfolding in a composition of asymmetry, floral swags, and sculptural tension. The surface, built in gesso over a carved wood foundation and finished in softly timeworn gilt, reveals a richness of texture that only emerges through age and handling—subtle darkened undertones settling into the recesses, emphasizing every curve and contour.

 Executed in the early 20th century in the enduring tradition of French and Italian decorative arts, the piece reflects the continued fascination with 18th-century Rococo forms—reinterpreted at scale and with a distinctly theatrical presence.

 While often confused with architectural supports, this is a freestanding ornamental element—a sculptural fragment in its own right, intended not to serve a function, but to assert one. Placed on a mantel, console, or within a layered vignette, it brings with it the suggestion of a larger interior—one built over time, not assembled all at once.
