I love antique religious art so you can imagine how this painting stopped me in my tracks… when I first saw it I thought of the story of Jesus being lost and Mary finding him in the Temple. He was older in that particular story, but to me, this painting tells more of Jesus always being drawn to his Father's house… the place his spirit could be in communion with God. As I mentioned,  I stopped and stared and immediately wanted to touch it. It completely drew me in. It’s one of those extra special pieces that you can feel… feel the history, feel the care with which the artist created it, the love and longing Jesus had to be near is Heavenly Father. 

It’s oil on linen. I believe at one time it was part of a much larger painting that was cut and this piece re-stretched and framed. That’s probably why it’s unsigned.

This painting is OLD… really old. There are areas that look like repairs but there is no damage on the reverse. I believe the restretching caused the paint expansion. To me, that’s part of it’s story and charm.

This is one of those pieces that the pictures tell more than words ever could. I'm showing in high and low light. 

I acquired it from the estate of an art collector outside of San Antonio, TX. It’s framed in solid wood with a two-tone gold finish and a hanging wire.

It’s substantial measuring 29” tall x 41” wide with a nice weight to it.
