Pair of 19th Century French Neoclassical Classical Decorative Works in Original Paris Frames
Bring the elegance of the 19th century into your home with this exceptional estate-sourced pair of French Neoclassical classical decorative works, professionally custom framed in Paris and offered together just as they have remained for generations.
Privately sourced from an extraordinary estate collection, this pair was among the remarkable European treasures we were fortunate enough to discover during an exclusive private shopping opportunity. It’s exactly the kind of find we love most—beautifully preserved, rich in history, and ready to be appreciated by a new generation of collectors.
Inspired by celebrated scenes from classical antiquity, one work depicts The Marriage of Peleus and Thetis (The Aldobrandine Wedding), while the companion portrays Apollo in His Chariot. During the 19th century, the Neoclassical movement revived Europe’s fascination with the art, architecture, and mythology of ancient Greece and Rome, making subjects like these highly sought after for refined interiors.
Equally impressive are the original custom frames. Each features warm walnut veneer, beautifully detailed gilt moldings, and retains its original H.F. Jeanbin Paris framer’s label on the reverse. Located at Rue et Place Vendôme, No. 2, at the corner of Rue Saint-Honoré, Jeanbin’s establishment served artists, collectors, and patrons in one of Paris’s most distinguished art and luxury districts. Original labels of this kind are increasingly uncommon and provide a wonderful connection to the pieces’ history and presentation.
Offered only as a matched pair, these works would make a stunning addition to a library, dining room, study, gallery wall, or any thoughtfully layered collected home. Their architectural frames, classical imagery, and rich old-world character create a timeless statement that complements both traditional and grandmillennial interiors.
