A radiant pair of Republic-era Chinese cloisonné horses, each one a small triumph of color, craftsmanship, and history. Created between 1930 and 1950, these exquisite brass forms are cloaked in hand-applied enamel of turquoise, coral, celadon, and gold, their surfaces alive with intricate scrolling ruyi clouds and stylized florals outlined in fine gilt wire.

Once crafted for export from the renowned cloisonné workshops of Beijing and Tianjin, these horses embody the elegant revival of Tang-dynasty artistry so beloved in the early twentieth century. Their compact yet regal silhouettes—with proud arched necks, curled tails, and gilt hooves—reflect both ancient inspiration and the cosmopolitan flair of the Republic period.

Each horse measures approximately 9.5” long x 6.5” tall, making them the perfect statement pair atop a console, mirrored tray, or bookcase vignette. Display them together for symmetry or separately to accent a mantle or chinoiserie tableau—their luminous enamel catches the light beautifully from every angle.
