This fabulous Pani La Shar Pawnee Hermès scarf is a true work of art! Designed by fellow Texan Kermit Oliver, a man who worked as both an artist and a full-time mail sorter for the US Postal Service, initially in Houston and then for thirty years after moving to Waco, Texas in 1984.
His relationship with Hermès began in 1980 when Lawrence Marcus of the upscale department store Neiman Marcus was asked by Hermès whether he knew of an American artist who could create a design for a scarf with a Southwestern theme. Marcus told them about Oliver, and the design was a success—so much so that Oliver created 17 designs for Hermès over 32 years. He is the only American artist to do so.
It’s the perfect size to frame measuring 16.5” x 16.5”. It’s in pristine condition with the original care tag and Hermès box.
I acquired it from the Central Texas estate of a personal friend of Kermit Olivers.
Pieces like this are why I love sourcing the South and the great state of Texas for vintage and antique estate decor…shopping estate sales, auctions, charity thrift stores, and antique malls to carefully curate a collection of fantastic finds that have and will stand the test of time.
