‘Portrait of a Lady’ in the style of French Artist Etienne Bouchardy
‘Portrait of a Lady’ in the style of French Artist Etienne Bouchardy
Lovely early 20th century small French portrait in the style of the 1838 ‘Portrait of Woman’ by Etienne Bouchardy (1797-1849) behind convex glass in an ornate metal frame
Absolutely fantastic!
Miniature portraits first became popular in the 16th century during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.
Throughout the Medieval and Renaissance periods, portraits of royals and the affluent began being included in books, but it was Jean Clouet (1480-1541), a French artist working at the court of Francois I, who brought them to the masses as works of art.
Their popularity soon spread to England, where they were often framed or made into lockets or boxes.
I acquired the entire collection of miniature portraits from same lovely Texas estate… the same as the XLarge Florentine wall hanging of The Good Shepherd that sold immediately on IG.
Sourcing the South and the great state of Texas for vintage and antique estate decor is my favorite thing to do...shopping estate sales, auctions, and charity thrift stores to carefully curate a collection of fantastic finds that have and will stand the test of time.
It measures 6.25” tall x 5.5” wide and is in lovely estate condition.
