Terre de Retz Powder Box Cover c1920s in the style of Marie Antoinette. I am amazed at the intricate detail of this lovely piece.
Terre de Retz was a line of face powder sold by the Galeries Lafayette department store in Paris, France.
The face powder was housed inside papier mache or composition powder boxes in the style of figural forms fashioned as French royalty or ladies of the court.
Beautifully painted in perfect pastels and/or vibrant colors, these glorious boxes graced vanities around the world during the 1920s.
I acquired it from a private sale at the most amazing Central Texas estate. This place was filled with treasures top to bottom… the lady of the house was a Texas through and through as she was a Daughter of the Republic of Texas (DRT) and may have loved Elvis as much as I do💙
Sourcing the South and the great state of Texas for vintage and antique estate decor is my favorite thing to do...shopping estate sales, auctions, and charity thrift stores to carefully curate a collection of fantastic finds that have and will stand the test of time.
It measures 4” tall x 3” wide.
