This one has everything we love about chinoiserie—with a wonderfully whimsical twist.

A fabulous vintage Famille Noire-style porcelain ginger jar, featuring the characteristic dramatic black ground layered with colorful florals, flowering branches and fanciful figural scenes. The central vignette features a charmingly theatrical gentleman balancing beneath a parasol, surrounded by blossoms and traditional chinoiserie motifs.

And then there’s the lid—the best part. A sculptural peach finial with turquoise leaves gives the entire piece an unexpected, playful flourish. In Chinese decorative tradition, peaches are associated with longevity and good fortune, making the motif as meaningful as it is charming.

The saturated black, coral, turquoise, pink and yellow palette makes this an especially striking piece for a collected interior. Fabulous tucked into a bookcase, perched atop a chest, mixed among blue and white porcelain, or standing alone where all those wonderful details can be appreciated.
