Vintage Porcelain Boucher French Courting Scene Plate
Vintage Porcelain Boucher French Courting Scene Plate
Vintage porcelain plate featuring a lovely courting scene by the French master, Francois Boucher. This scene is one of my favorites.
Francois Boucher (1703-1770) is known as the most celebrated painter of the 18th century primarily for his pastoral courting scenes like this one.
It’s only marked on the reverse with a number. A plate hanger has been attached which I did not try to remove.
I acquired it at the familial Castle Hills estate of a former San Antonio mayor and judge considered one of the city's founders. His daughter, who spent countless hours serving on various charity boards, was also an active and prominent member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT).
This estate had so many lovely things, like the large 19th-century tapestry and Sitzendorf figural candlesticks. I was thrilled to have sourced some of the most fantastic things.
Pieces like this are why I love sourcing the South and the great state of Texas for vintage and antique estate decor. You never know what you'll find...shopping estate sales, auctions, and charity thrift stores to carefully curate a collection of fantastic finds that have and will stand the test of time.
It measures 10.25” in diameter and is in lovely estate condition.
