Vintage University of Texas Engineering Building Commemorative Plate – Wedgwood England, 1930s-1940s

Celebrate Texas history and Longhorn legacy with this vintage University of Texas Engineering Building plate, exquisitely crafted by Wedgwood, Etruria, England in the 1930s-1940s.

Rendered in the school’s official burnt orange and white, the plate showcases the Engineering Building, home to generations of Texas engineers who helped shape the state’s industrial and technological landscape. Opened in 1931 as part of UT’s campus expansion, the building housed classrooms, laboratories, and lecture halls for some of the earliest petroleum, civil, and mechanical engineering programs in the Southwest.

The intricate border features the University of Texas Seal and State of Texas emblem, while the reverse displays the opening notes of the beloved alma mater “The Eyes of Texas,” a song first performed in 1903 that became an enduring tradition sung at countless commencements, football games, and rallies.

I acquired it from the most AMAZING estate… a historic home that was a glorious mix of color, pattern, antiques, and an outside garden that was just as fabulous.

Pieces like this are why I love Sourcing the South and the great state of Texas for heirloom estate decor…shopping estate sales, online auctions, charity thrift stores, and antique malls to carefully curate a collection of fantastic vintage and antique finds that have and will stand the test of time.
