19th Century English Paint-Decorated Blanket Chest, Georgian Manor House Façade | Estate-Sourced English Folk Art

A wonderful 19th-century English pine blanket chest later hand-painted to resemble a stately Georgian country house. The façade features classical columns, a central pediment, symmetrical windows, and an inviting front entrance, transforming a practical storage piece into a charming work of architectural folk art.

The generously sized interior offers ample storage for blankets, linens, seasonal décor, or treasured collections, while the original iron side handles and beautifully worn surface speak to generations of use. Rich patina, age-softened paint, and hand-painted details give this piece the warmth and character collectors seek but cannot replicate.

Equal parts storage chest and decorative statement piece, this is the type of antique that instantly becomes a focal point in a collected home. Whether placed in a living room, entry hall, library, or at the foot of a bed, it brings old-world English charm and a wonderful sense of history to any space.

About Our English House Boxes

These remarkable English house boxes date to the late 19th century and were traditionally crafted from pine, then hand-painted to resemble elegant Georgian and Victorian homes. No two are exactly alike. Each features its own architectural details, color palette, and personality, making them as decorative as they are functional.

Many retain their original forged iron hardware, blacksmith plaques, and layers of authentic wear earned over generations. Inside, several still bear handwritten inscriptions and dates from former owners, offering a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the families who once used them.

Today, they make extraordinary statement pieces for a collected home—perfect for storing linens, seasonal décor, letters, photographs, or simply displayed as sculptural objects. They embody everything we love about English antiques: craftsmanship, charm, history, and a story worth preserving.

Purchased at auction where they were sourced directly from England. Circa late 1800s.
