Vintage Texas Hill Country Bluebonnet Landscape Painting in Gilt & Oxblood Frame

There’s something special about finding a Texas bluebonnet painting in a shape you almost never see.

This vintage Texas landscape has a wonderfully tall, narrow composition—25 inches high by just 15 inches wide—giving it an almost window-like view into the Texas Hill Country in spring.

A magnificent old tree rises through the center of the landscape beneath a beautiful blue-and-white cloud-filled sky, with softly rendered hills disappearing into the distance. Below, the foreground is absolutely covered in deep, richly painted Texas bluebonnets, interspersed with little touches of red, yellow, pink and white wildflowers and pale Hill Country stone.

The closer you look, the more charming it becomes. Individual bluebonnets emerge from the deeper washes of blue and green, while tiny dots and strokes of contrasting color give the field wonderful texture and movement.

And the frame is so good.

Warm gilt surrounds the painting with a rich reddish-brown, almost oxblood-colored outer molding. That deeper color beautifully echoes the earthy tones of the landscape and the tiny red accents among the wildflowers while making the saturated blues and greens feel even richer.

The painting also has an interesting dimensional construction. The canvas/stretcher assembly extends beyond the back of the frame, rather than sitting completely flush, giving the piece an overall depth of approximately 3 inches. Please see the side-view photograph for a clear look at its profile.
